It’‘s been said that Virginia is for lovers, but it seems that Virginia is really for everybody, offering a variety of things to do and places to see on your vacation. Travel to Virginia and allow yourself to be seduced by this historical, picturesque southern state in the continental U.S.
Virginia borders the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and to the west are the Appalachian Mountains. In between you will find rolling hills, valleys with farms and vineyards, and historical markers throughout the state. Some of the oldest towns in North America reside in Virginia, and it was one of the first states to ratify the Declaration of Independence. Eight U.S. Presidents were born in Virginia, and the first lasting British settlement, Jamestown, is a must-see vacationing spot.
With a state so rich in history, one will be pleased to know how modern Virginia is as well. Cities such as Richmond (capital), Virginia Beach, Fairfax, Arlington, and Charlottesville all offer dozens of museums, theaters, and restaurants. Fairfax and Arlington are also very close to the U.S. Capital, Washington, D.C..
Whether you are a history lover, a nature lover, an art lover, or just a vacation lover, Virginia will not disappoint. Visit the beach, or visit the mountains- either way you will fall in love with this state.
Virginia can be experienced year-round, though fall offers a spectacular array of leaf colors along the countryside landscape. Winters may have temperatures below freezing and some snow may accumulate in the north of the state (perfect for skiing), but the temperature is generally mild in the winter and warm, almost hot, in the summer.
The official language is English, and the official currency is the U.S. Dollar. The unofficial drink is wine at one of the many vineyards in the state. Enjoy your colonial vacation!
