Croatia is quickly becoming a popular vacation destination. Located in Southern Europe with a superb Adriatic coastline, Croatia is one of the most beautiful parts of Europe, and the tourism industry is back in force, allowing you to experience a most memorable Croatian holiday.
Croatia is home to miles of breathtaking coastlines, creating an appeal for those travelers seeking a true "sun n’‘ sea" vacation. Yachts line up on the shores and cruise lines cater to the tourists’‘ desires to travel to the islands off Croatia’‘s coast. Coastal and island resorts are plentiful, along with boat charters and tourist activity agencies, ensuring that your Croatian holiday is fulfilled to it’‘s up most potential. The country not only offers plenty to do (skiing, hiking, cycling, kayaking, windsurfing, swimming and canoing), but also has plenty to see. Some of Europe’‘s finest Roman ruins are scattered throughout Croatia, adding to the picturesque allure this country brings all visitors. Some sights tourists should take in are the cobbled streets of Rovinji, Dubrovnik’‘s Stari Grad, the palace of Diocletian in Split and Pula’‘s amphitheater, the idyllic islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula, and the Plitvice National Park. Ruskamen is home to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic coast. Before packing your swimsuit for the Croatian beaches, be sure to know that Croatia is a very popular beach destination for naturists or nudists. Naturist beaches are marked as "FKK", so look for this sign before you cover up (or undress). There are more than 20 official naturist resorts in Croatia, along with a number of "free beaches", which are unofficial naturist beaches. The most popular naturist beaches are Pula, Hvar, and Rab.
Also something worth keeping in mind while vacationing in Croatia are land mines. Not all of the land mines have been cleared so be cautious when traveling into stray fields or abandoned villages.
The best time of the year to visit Croatia is between April and September. May and June are perfect for outdoor activities (especially swimming and yachting), and July and August are when tourism is in full swing. Peak season allows for more crowds but also more boats, waiting to take you to the islands. September is a good time for crowds to thin out. Also, figs and grapes are in season, which will add to the already delicious meals.
The official language is Croatian, though many Croatians speak fluent English. The official currency is the Kuna (HRK). The unofficial drink is wine and rakija, a type of brandy. And when vacationing in Croatia be sure to always try to the dessert, especially a creamy cake called kremsnite.
No matter where you are in the world, always be aware of your surroundings. And be sure to have a great time on your vacation. Be sure to share your memories and your pictures.
